In Like a Lion

When I was a child we always talked about March as coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb.  Since then, there has been a great deal of controversy about weather patterns and some rather strange events.

Recently, Texas experienced a horrible snowstorm that was unusual for them.   Because they were “off the grid” and had invested in solar panels and wind turbines, they were in trouble!   The solar panels were covered with piles or snow and the blades on windmills were frozen.   The fact that electricity was out for many hours and houses weren’t insulated to withstand deadly freezing winds, ice and snow, left the population vulnerable.   Icy roads complicated the situation.  What made the situation even more bizarre were reports that the snow which wasn’t melting could actually be burned.

But Texas wasn’t the only state that experienced weather problems.  Deaths were reported in Tennessee, Kentucky and Louisiana from winter storms while North Carolina experienced a tornado.

In 1956 Burt Lancaster and Katherine Hepburn starred in the movie “The Rainmaker”.  The setting is during the Depression and the storyline involves a con-man who arrives in a desperate drought-ridden Kansas town promising to make rain. This movie challenges beliefs of the residents and the viewers!

But weather manipulation (weather control) is not a new concept.

Cloud seeding with silver iodide has been used to bring rain in many countries including the United States, China, Indian and Russia.  Scientist have conducted experiments for years in attempts to stop hurricanes, cyclones, hail by dropping oils, powder and lasers into specific geographical areas.

It is interesting to do research to become more aware of the significant work that has been done in the area of weather modification.   The United Nations has banned it during warfare under the Environmental Modification Convention.

But the experiments continue during peacetime.   In fact, two years ago, Forbes published an article about China launching weather-control machines!
